Grounds Maintenance

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. And your school's exterior is the first thing students, parents, and prospects see when they visit your school. Grounds Maintenance helps to build an image of a quality organisation with an attention to detail.

Plus, providing students and employees with an inviting, pleasant atmosphere can actually affect your bottom line by contributing to both employee and student retention.

Key Considerations

Ensure the contractor has employees with the right knowledge, experience, expertise and specialised equipment. Some professional bodies could include the Institute of Groundsmanship or even the ArbAC – Arboricultural Association, for those contractors that conduct tree surgery.

Ensure all contractor staff are cleared with the DBS and all have safeguarding checks.

Ensure the contractor is incentivised to perform well and will be penalised financially for poor performance by adding a service level agreement (SLA) into the contract.

Other considerations to take note of:

  • Does the contractor investment in new technologies, infrastructure, green technologies and consider other ways to provide value for money?
  • Will the service be delivered in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way through innovative and progressive environmental sustainable practices?
  • Does the contractor have sufficient levels of professional indemnity insurance and public liability insurance certificates, so that you are covered in the event of an accident?
